I first met with the ED, who, by the end of my interview, enthusiastically promised to create a special role for me that would make use of my unique skills. Then I met with my to-be manager who hadn't had time to prepare for my interview; she spent most of the time describing how badly the org needed someone to organize their mess as they scale up. They ended up offering me a role that didn't match my skillsets or interests, contrary to the expectation they set. When I pointed this out, they assured me I would have lots of opportunity to apply my skills in the role they needed filled, so I accepted. Now that I've been working for a few weeks, they have threatened to fire me because I ask questions (about relevant topics) that they claim are "out of my lane," which further contradicts what they originally said.
