I did a phone screen with someone in HR, then a video interview with the hiring manager. Following that, I was sent an exercise to work at home and develop a presentation to share with others when I showed up in person 1 week later. When I showed up, there was a panel of 5 people waiting for me. The hiring manager wasn’t present and decided to join in remotely, which was kind of weird. I will say, that first panel asked very fair and good questions. Immediately following the visit, I was asked to return to meet with the hiring manager’s supervisor, as well as the executive officer of the department. I came back the following week, and when I arrived, was told that they had another panel of people for me to meet with first. On this meeting, it was much different. A couple of the people knew how to interview, but a couple of the panelists asked absolutely poor questions. The hiring manager was in person for this. Following that meeting, I went upstairs to meet with the Director and Executive Officer. That was probably the best interview of all of them. It was a very candid discussion and very realistic about expectations and what could get done. When I left the building the HR person told me I’d be hearing back before the vacation break, but nothing happened. When I wrote to her, she told me that the hiring manager decided to take off the following week, and that she had nothing else to share. So after waiting nearly 2 weeks for feedback, I wrote to hr. There was no response. Two days later I wrote again and called. Finally, I get a 1 sentence email telling me that no one will be moving forward in the process. It was kind of cold and distant considering all the time I put into it. I was really disappointed by how i was treated at the end. I definitely wouldn’t have handled things in that manner.

How would you handle a situation where many people came to you with projects they wanted completed immediately, but you couldn’t get to all of them at once.

The interview process was extremely disappointing. A call with the recruiter led to a zoom interview. The recruiter told me it would be with the manager and sent me some tips on how to prepare. The manager was late and 6 people joined the call. The recruiter did not mention that the very first zoom call would be a panel interview. It was completely unprofessional and didn't make sense for the first meeting/call. The actual hiring manager was in a large room and I couldn't even see them on my screen. Every time they spoke, I had to lean in to even hear them due to how far way they sat within the room, very poor impression as this would be my direct manager. Overall, the process was a waste of time. The team was not friendly, they read directly from a script, were late and didn't even let me know about the panel style.

They asked me about my writing experiences and my experience with Microsoft Offices. Despite this position being listed as a technical position, they didn't seem to care about my technical experience.
