Entrevista
Two-day onsite interview at UCR campus. This was for a faculty position in the Chemistry department. Consists of a presentation of past research, defense of your research proposals, and one-on-one meetings with various faculty. There was also a dinner interview with two professors that is best described as fascinatingly appallingly. During the dinner, one of the functional nanocrystals professor was openly discussing another candidate's application with her colleague, who must have been trying hard not to do a face palm. Aside from being inappropriate and unprofessional in talking about one candidate's application in front of another competing candidate, this professor's behavior was also rude and classless throughout, in terms of her demeanor towards me as well as the type of questions she was asking, i.e, the illegal/personal sort that would constitute an HR nightmare.

Lots of technical questions at both the presentation and the proposal defense, which is standard for an academic interview.

It was straight forward and very informative. All my questions were answered with detail. A lot of resources and information was shared with me and others interviewing as well. They really cared who I was as a person and how my skill set could help contribute.

Fairly typical process as far as faculty hiring goes. First, submission of CV, statements of research and teaching. Second, wait to see if selected for an interview. Third, interview (with public and then chalk talks). Fourth, a series of one-to-one discussions with departmental faculty. Fifth, wait to see if offer extended.
