After being selected for the initial phone screening interview, I was prepared and ready for the agreed start time, as this was originally booked in over a week beforehand. After 30 minutes of anxious waiting for the assigned recruiter to call, I emailed directly to understand if circumstances had changed, which would be fair enough with explanation. The recruiter replied almost an hour after the interview was supposed to start, and explained that an attempt to call was made (no email or indication to reach me was received before emailing), and that she had left a voicemail "at the time it was scheduled", implying that it was an error on my part. I did not receive a voicemail. Disappointed but still eager to continue with the interview process, I expressed to her my wide availability to complete the interview as soon as possible, however I was instead sent an automated schedule to book another interview call almost two weeks later! Despite my request to arrange availability sooner, I was left with no answer, and an automated rejection notice that I had been unsuccessful in my initial application... despite receiving an interview request. Definitely in my top 3 of worst interview experiences. The lack of understanding and initiative was beyond appalling, especially in the current job market. Hopefully this was solely down to the recruiter rather than the company.
