the hiring process was all about who you knew - you had to have a connection to get your application reviewed. I have no idea how you would apply without inside assistance. however they rotate out interns each season which allows for a higher number of positions available Background checks happen before you begin but were easy enough.

Submitted application through USA Jobs, was contacted by an office within the Bureau I was interested in. I was then asked to submit an essay via email. That was it.
