Put in my qualifications for education consultant to administer a federal grant through one of the professors at UC Berkeley for a position needing someone immediately. Got through the first round based on my qualifications as applied to the requirements of the position. Wrote a follow-up proposal detailing salary expectations, answering many more specific questions about the specific tasks of the position. Gained clarification over the phone about process of selection and timing. Was told the project was being "rescaled" and that I would hear. Left a phone message and an email message for follow-up. Did not hear. Suspect the grant was altered in some way. Not sure of outcome, but learned a valuable lesson about how to spend my time and respond to cues as to seriousness of job listing. If a prospective hirer is in a hurry to get someone, but fails to respond in a timely fashion, that may be a clue.
