Candidatei-me online. Fui entrevistado pela University of Chicago (Chicago, IL) em mai. de 2017
Entrevista
I first had a phone interview with the PI and was then invited down to the UChicago campus to do an in person interview and meet with other members of the lab. The phone interview consisted of very general questions pertaining to my background and the in-person interview just followed up on (or repeated) these questions. The in-person interview also discussed my experience and style of work in the laboratory and was with the PI, the current research specialist, and all others who worked in the lab (lab manager, post doc, and a lab tech). The environment/atmosphere was relaxed overall but also professional.

I had a phone interview with the PI about a week after I applied online. Follow up interview with her and 3 of her colleagues for about 2 hours. One professor just talked about her research the whole time and another could barely come up with questions. I had to follow up after a week to learn I had not been accepted. No parking validation offered.

Initial phone interview covered background and gauged my understanding of previous positions. Followed by an in person interview with the research group that included research technicians, graduate students, and post-doctorates. Included in the interview process was taking part in the group meeting and observing data presentations. In person interview did not amount to many questions from non-faculty staff. Faculty staff asked for responses to problem solving questions on certain molecular techniques.
The administrator who I had to interview with was particular about ensuring that the hire could in fact fulfill the role. A previous employee had suggested they could perform the functionalities necessary, but in practice was incapable and needed to be let go. The administrator impressed upon me that they did not want to repeat this process and that the position is paying for services. The administrator would then go on to discuss how well another employee did and enthralled me with stories of success and promises. The administrator made it clear that I should probe other members of the lab about these employees.
Overall I felt that I was not a good fit for the group and left unenthused about the position, especially after speaking with the administrator. I did not get the position and feel better for it. I wish them luck.
