I’m left speechless having spent 2-3 weeks going through the interview rounds with VTS for a Lead Product role. Now I can see why their ratings are so low. The entire process was a mess.
It started out VERY good, made it past recruiter screening call and then on to 1st round with Hiring Manager for role I applied for.
Feedback was good so recruiter told me I’m moving on to call with Engineering Lead. Then was told they had more urgent hiring on another role, leading their flagship product, and if I’d be interested. I said yes, given my propensity to never decline a more sophisticated + high visibility role. I never shy away from the limelight. I then had call with Engineering and the person spent 30 minutes firing off behavioral questions. At the bottom of the hour he simply said, “Looks like we are out of time” leaving zero opportunity for questions. Technical interview that was 100% loop-sided, while I had prepared questions about current their ML ops and deployment model.
Few days later recruiter emailed me saying they went with their unicorn candidate. Huh, so why pivot me from the role I originally interviewed for?
The entire process was nonsensical. I spent 16-17 days preparing, even prepared a business-changing portfolio risk prescriptive data model for asset management. But of course never made it to the case interview to present it. I really think the Chief People Officer needs to be more hands-on if the hiring process is this chaotic.
