I was approached via email by a corporate recruiter who presented the role and asked if I would be interested in interviewing for it. I said yes, I'd be interested and he arranged an initial phone screen.
During the initial call, he asked what my asking salary would be (big red flag right there). I told him clearly and concisely my compensation needs and he said that this would indeed be possible, if I showed that I was a good candidate.
While my recruiter contact was very good at arranging interviews and keeping me in the loop, there were four separate interviews, including the initial call. The interview style was the same for all of the interviewers, did not discuss my resume what so ever, did not ask penetrating questions about my skills or knowledge as it pertains to the role.
However, I did get a sense that they will work you very hard. "Varonis is always looking for hungry, talented and motivated people". Read as, "we want hard working people that don't know when they are getting under paid".
After the fourth interview the offer came back, 30% lower than my ask, I was not impressed. Furthermore, the recruiter tried to make it sound like I was being dishonest with him, "well, I've got it in my notes here exactly what you told me."
I picked up on a really strange vibe when I was in the office, I felt like I was 20 years old again, interviewing for a fry cook job at McBurger In the Box; very corporate, like Office Space corporate. Wont bother with them again, even though they have outstanding software.
