I went through three separate recruitment processes with VeraContent over the course of 3 years. On the first process, I was asked to complete an unpaid assignment and was ghosted. On the second one, I completed another assignment and was rejected with zero feedback.
On this last occasion, they reached out to me. The process included a form, an interview, and a test assignment with a 24-hour deadline. After submitting, I was ghosted for 2 weeks. They eventually rejected me (after I reached out) with no feedback and a promise for "other projects" that, obviously, never came.
During this same process, I was separately contacted by someone else at the agency asking for an urgent, ad-hoc design task (a role I had previously been rejected for) with less than 24-hours notice and no discussion of rates or budget.
Working relationships in this company seem to be asymmetrical. Expecting freelancers to meet "employee deadlines" (or put out internal fires) while offering no rate transparency, feedback, or basic communication seems to be a recurring pattern here, and a red flag for anyone considering working with them.
