I found the position through a job posting so I applied. I thought it was a shot in the dark because I have no retail experience and professional, but I have extensive administrative and volunteering experience so I was a bit suprised when I heard a response. I was even more surprised when I reviewed the invitation to interview and the email was poorly written (wrong interview date, poor copy and paste job, multiple signatures, etc). Nevertheless, I responded to the invitation to find out the correct location and time of the interview. The recruiter responded the next day. He did notify me that there would be a high volume of applicants. The day of the interview I arrived about an hour early and waited about a half hour to be interviewed. My interviewer was pleasant. You could tell he enjoyed his job. Anyway, he asked retail questions like, "Name one time you encountered a situation where a customer..." I manipulated all of my questions to fit the position I applied for but I do believe my minimal retail experience and my graduate degree (not in the field) did me a disservice. I will say, though, that he did say he thought I was a good fit for the company because of my extensive administrative experience and demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills (past substitute teacher, mentor). Perhaps, I would have received an offer if there weren't so many applicants. My resume was forwarded to HR and I was told me they would let me know the decision in a week. Two weeks later I received an email notifying me that I did not get the position. I filled out the online application on a whim, but for those who have little to no retail experience I suggest you speak with the store managers in and around your desired location. Of course you still have to interview with the company, but this way you have an in and established a rapport prior. It could only benefit you.

The interview lasted about 45 minutes, and the questions were based on my knowledge of the brand, technology in general, behavioral styles, also what if scenarios and her views of the culture
