The full process took 49 days from first contact to final decision, not counting the wait for the initial email. For an internship, this is an unreasonable amount of time to keep a candidate engaged, especially since it effectively blocks you from accepting other offers during the process.
The stages were a 4-hour homework assignment followed by a 1-hour manager interview. The interview itself was mostly generic personality questions. Throughout the conversation, there were repeated mentions of how many other candidates they had, including those with bachelor’s degrees, and how they could pick whomever they wanted. That framing set a strange tone.
Rejection feedback cited “informal communication style” and “inability to clearly validate stated competencies and experience.” Worth noting: the only question I struggled to back with a concrete example was about critical thinking, which is genuinely hard to demonstrate on the spot. Technical questions and process/automation questions I answered to the best of my ability.
Advice for candidates:
Be prepared for a long process and don’t put other opportunities on hold while you wait. Expect a homework assignment that will take a serious chunk of your time. Be ready with very specific, concrete examples for every claim on your CV, including soft skills like critical thinking.
Advice for the company:
Shorten the timeline for internship hiring, or be upfront about expected duration so candidates can plan accordingly.
