      Entrevista

I applied to Wayfair through the career website for an open SDET role. I was contacted by HR a day later. The usual get to know you why apply, why the change and what you are looking for? This all went well and HR spokesperson was to present my resume to one of the team managers. A few hours after email exchanges in regards to my availability, technical interview was scheduled. Day of the technical interview, I was ready and called in by the manager. Manager had another person(supposedly the more technical person) accompany this interview. So the usual tech company interview jargon, what are your daily tasks like? what are you looking to move or make a change and so on. He later introduces himself and what his team and company as a whole do and are trying to achieve, what they expect someone coming in for the role to do, culture and so forth. Then we get on to the technical part. The other person in the room, takes over the mic. Shares a coder pad url via email. First question,(Thick Indian accent) Can you tell me how you would write a boolean method that returns true or false if item exists in an integer array? Easy breezy, right, write out the algorithm / solution. He commends but insists for a more optimal solution. Sure, I optimize the solution to a O(n). He hesitates to respond. Finally he goes, why did you not do it is way the first time round. ???? Question 2: Write me an algorithm that removes the last item to be added to a list of items.(In my mind, I am like his asking for a stack, sure)...I write out easy stack implementation(algorithm). At this point my algorithm is a generic method(T) and it is optimized this time. He glances it over and then goes, how would you test this code if it is only a few lines and does not specify which data type? My response: Well, I would use all data types String, Integer and boolean and test to see if they return whatever data type the list is made of, the last item to be inserted and remove it from the list. He goes well, that would not be wise. But thank you for the effort, it is one solution but not what i was hoping for. Any questions? I respond, none, but thank you too for your time and best regards. 2 days later, I receive a rejection email
