I had a truly bad interview experience with an interviewer at Waymo. The rest of the people I talked with were great. That particular person would ask you a question without stating their assumptions, and when you would ask them which case it is, they refused to respond. Think about this, they refused to answer what their assumptions are. When you'd bring a counter example they would say "this is a pathological case", well not really. They would ask generic questions, whose answers depend highly on the specific domain. Basically the interviewer acted like this: "I have something (a question) in my head, that I can not express clearly and if you are not able to guess what it is, then you must a pathological case". Insanity meets reality. Someone would say, there is a complete vacuum of emotional intelligence in the interviewer's side. Is a basic interviewer training too much to ask for? The interviewer used the interview time to showcase their knowledge (& ego!), instead of actually learning about my skills and what I can bring to the team. I love self-driving tech and Waymo seems like a great company to work at, but unfortunately that single individual deprived me from being able to proceed with the interview process and wasted my time.
