Entrevista
I interviewed as a Senior Software Engineer with 10 years of experience, 6 of which in a well established software company.
The journey into wise consists in 5 interviews:
- Intro interview: with recruiter, talking about yourself & so on
- Pair programming interview: 45 minutes interview with one engineer.
- Technical interview: 1 hour 30 min system design interview with two engineers
- Product interview: 1 hour product interview with a product manager.
- Final interview: interview with our engineering lead and a team lead.
I was stopped after the pair programming interview.
Perguntas de entrevista [5]
Pergunta 1
- Define the interface for a value conversion service.
- Implement an example of a conversion query.
- Cache it.
- Yeah, it looks good, but should we do anything else?
- Yes, but don't you think there is something that can be done differently?
(variation of this same question for about 10 minutes)
Yeah, it is not thread safe, you can call it just a certain number of times, what would you do?
There is some feature in the language, but I'm trying to see what you think.
Pair programming round, followed by architecture round, product interview and final discussion with two engineering leads. The questions were quite easy except for the product interview where I was not sure what the interviewer was looking for.

Be wary the interview process takes long and be ready to invest the time into it. If you are interviewing with multiple companies at the same time, you will probably not reach the end with Wise.
Interview process started off with a phone screen. Recruiter did the most talking at that point and you will be asked what you've done so far and what's your motivation in joining Wise.
The second round involved a live coding challenge (not Leetcode). I was asked to implement a solution for high throughput currency conversion service. Some basic parts of the code were pre-written and you had to build on top of it. Make sure to explain why you are doing what you are doing.
The third round was about architectural design. This step didn't involve coding, but more of a high level application design. Some existing parts of the ecosystem were predefined and I was asked to integrate a new service to it.
The fourth round was product interview. This is probably the hardest one to pass as a regular developer. You really need to live and breathe their product development and research ways. You are given few links which explain how they do some of it, but that's not enough. You will be asked questions that are not covered within these materials and it really is a make it or break it kinda deal if you don't have experience in those fields. They do say that there are no right and wrong answers, but that's clearly not the case. They are looking for perfect answers and if you can't give them you are SOL. Seems that Wise doesn't care that people could learn some of the things on the go.
