I just mailed the Director, telling him of my intentions to join a robotics lab as a graduate student, but having not having any real experience with robotics. He said i should apply for an SA position and get involved with the undergraduate students...and that was it!

Submit interest in a form. Then get on a video call where they talk about fit and stuff. Don't worry too much just be ready with a slide deck of why you are a good fit.
