I was referred to the company by several current employees that I'd worked with at a previous company. The interview process was very relaxed and informal. Due to the nature of the position, it was primarily focused on team fit, culture, challenges and opportunities.
There were questions about my previous experiences, what some prior successes and failures were and what I'd taken from them, and my approach and philosophy regarding both engineering and management practices. I was given the chance to ask some questions in return about company direction and philosophy, high-level plans for the current project and likely subsequent projects, and the motivations behind those choices.
We also toured the office and spent some hands-on time with some of the engineering tools the team uses to build, deploy, track and report status, defect metrics, and game telemetry.
