I went to the open house in Fort Worth to interview after getting several emails regarding my resume. The Assistant Manager recommended the Spa Concierge opportunity because I was searching for an entry-level opportunity after 20 years as a Licensed Massage Therapist. It sounded great but, she asked why I decided to change careers. She proceeded to continue to ask personal questions also.
I also applied for the Massage Therapist opportunity. I spoke to the Human Resources on the phone, same day they asked me to come in two days later for a ** 2 HOUR ** practical. One hour for swedish and one hour for deep tissue therapy. UNPAID.
The Human Resources department did not provide the details on the practical procedure but, I went with the flow. The Assistant Manager introduced the first client as my "model." She said no intake form will be completed, just verbal. I didn't know if that model was a potential client. I started the massage and could not complete it because the next "model" had another appointment so, there was no time for feedback in between sessions.
My advice to Recruiting Team:
Most practicals are no longer than an hour. It is state law to complete an intake form, regardless if they are an employee, job candidate , paid, or unpaid. Feedback is expected after a 2 hour practical. A general denial letter is insufficient.
When preparing a candidate for a practical be more detailed in what they should expect. (i.e Start time for both massages and interview with the general manager.)
I asked for feedback after my denial letter, I still have not received a response. The "models" getting a free massage seemed happy at least .
