Held every year on the 21st of May, #DiversityDay, officially known as 'World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development', celebrates and highlights not only the richness of the world’s cultures, but also the essential role of intercultural dialogue for understanding the value of cultural diversity and learning how to live together in harmony. Embracing other cultures helps us to be more flexible, understanding, respectful, and to lead more fulfilling lives. We are very proud to be a multicultural company, with people from 20 countries! If we were to spread 888spectate all around the world based on our nationalities, the only continents that we would not be present would be Antarctica! How amazing is that? Today, we got together in our office for a shared lunch, with typical food from different countries. As we all here are very much into a healthy competition, we had a not easy quiz about all the nationalities we have in 888spectate, and Iain Davis was the winner!
Last Friday, a number of us went to GoQuest - The Ultimate Indoor Adventure in Carrickmines as a Sports & Social event. With loads of different puzzle rooms, across physical, mental and skill based challenges, there was something there for everyone. By working together to solve the clues, each Team was able to successfully break free, win the points and progress to the next challenge. Only one Team could win in the end though, so congratulations to Team 336 – Mark Jordan, Jithin Prakash, Henry Jackson and Emma Hill – completing 16 rooms for a total of 32 points, they were our worthy winners! 🏆
In celebration of Ibec's National Workplace Wellbeing Day 2023, we hosted a Treasure Hunt here in #Sandyford. We had 4 Teams take part in solving a number of different cryptic clues, anagrams and rebus puzzles, which brought all Teams to different places of interest in the locality. Not only did this hunt challenge people mentally, but it was a great way for us all to focus on physical, social and overall #wellbeing. Thankfully the rain held off and a lot of fun was had by all, but our winning group, Team 2, (Aoife Sheridan, Jithin Prakash, Agustin Garcia and Rafael Lima), with more than 12k steps achieved per person, came out on top in the end! Congratulations to our worthy winners and thanks to all for taking part!
Here in Spectate, our second biggest nationality group are from India, making up 13% of all of our staff. One of the biggest festivals in their calendar is Diwali, happening this year on Monday 24th October. Diwali is the festival of light and is celebrated every year in early Autumn, after the conclusion of Summer Harvest. Typically lasting five or six days, this is one of the most important festivals in the Hindu calendar, representing the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. The festival is an annual homecoming and bonding period for not only families, but also for communities and associations. Diwali is marked with fireworks, the decoration of floors with rangoli designs, and food being a major focus too, families partake in feasts and sharing mithai. We join our fellow colleagues in wishing them a happy and safe Diwali, bringing peace, health and happiness to your lives.
For the first time since lockdown, a number of people from our Spectate office were able to come together to compete in the Sandyford 5k mini marathon. In aid of the South Dublin Athletics Club, we joined nearly 300 other competitors from a number of different businesses in the area. Some of us walked and some of us were able to beat personal best times, but we all walked away with “Race Finisher” medals and proud smiles on our faces. We hope to compete again next year, to represent Spectate in this annual community event!
Some of our #amazing and #inspirational #women from all over 888 global sites and divisions have completed the intensive #SheLEADS Programme, and in celebration of International Women's Day, they got on the stage to share their stories. We are very much #proud to have so many incredible women with us! Thank you to our incredible SheLEADers for making it such an amazing day! One of our favourite initiatives at Christmas is when we get to reward not only our employees, but the younger children in their families too. With a number of gifts arriving already, they have proven to be a real treat to help ride out the last of Storm Barra.
