A team of Wenatchee High School sophomores is helping local facilities cut energy use through a paid internship with the Advanced Energy Management Program. Using Chelan PUD’s advanced metering data and on-site inspections, the students have identified energy-saving opportunities at about 10 buildings, including Wenatchee High School, where their recommendations reduced energy use by 54%—a potential savings of over $100,000 annually. The program, funded by Chelan PUD and the Wenatchee School District, trains students in real-world energy efficiency skills. Chelan PUD pays 6.5 cents per kilowatt hour saved.
