On Friday, we celebrate the founding of the United States on July 4, 1776. This is truly a historic milestone for our nation and all of us who call it home. For many, the Fourth of July means time spent with loved ones enjoying summer traditions and reflecting on the independence we cherish. Whether it's a backyard barbecue, a festive hometown parade or a fireworks display, each celebration is a tribute to the shared history of our nation. June 19, or Juneteenth, marks the date of the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation, the executive order that freed enslaved African Americans in the United States. Celebrating this significant moment in our country’s history provides an opportunity to reflect on our progress, while acknowledging the need to remain vigilant in protecting the civil rights and liberties of all Americans. We look forward to celebrating Juneteenth with you.
On Monday, Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who have served valiantly, those who sacrificed their lives fighting for our freedom and civil liberties.
