I’ve been with EVR for two years as an Accountant, where I support month-end close, forecasting site spend, and the annual budget process. I enjoy building relationships across departments while gaining a deeper understanding of the mining process from pit to port. I’m proud of the growth I’ve experienced during my time here, especially in taking on new challenges and contributing to value-added projects across site. What sets EVR apart is the culture. There’s a strong sense of community, with a shared goal and a genuine commitment to supporting and celebrating employees. Outside of work, I enjoy staying active and spending time with friends and family. In the winter, I coach minor hockey, and in the summer, I enjoy rodeoing, golfing, and playing ball. Having grown up in the Crowsnest Pass, I’ve always been aware of EVR’s presence. One of the things I value most is the ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance while living close to incredible outdoor opportunities. My advice to new team members: take initiative and make the most of both the work and the lifestyle this area offers.
I joined EVR in May 2025 as a Co-op student with the Central Geotechnical Team, and I’ll be continuing in this role through August 2026. As a Geological Engineering student from Queen’s University, this opportunity has allowed me to apply my academic learning to real-world geotechnical work in a meaningful way. I’ve been able to contribute to engaging projects while building a strong technical foundation in the field. Working alongside the geotechnical team has deepened my understanding, strengthened my technical skills, and reinforced many of the concepts I’ve learned in school. Being part of a team that values collaboration and knowledge sharing has made this experience both rewarding and impactful. What I enjoy most about working in the Elk Valley is the opportunity to be outdoors in such a beautiful setting while collaborating with a supportive and knowledgeable group of people. The combination of hands-on experience and the surrounding landscape makes every day unique. The culture at EVR truly stands out. It’s an environment that fosters learning, encourages teamwork, and supports growth. I’ve felt welcomed and supported throughout my time here, which has made a big difference in my overall experience. My advice for other students? Take every opportunity to learn, stay curious, and be open to new experiences. Ella – Geotechnical Engineering Co-op Learn more about Co-op opportunities with EVR at jobs.evr.com/students
I’ve been with EVR for three years, beginning on the water compliance team after a consulting background. My current role is focused on environmental compliance, ensuring we meet permits and regulatory requirements, including waste management and spill response. I enjoy the variety in my work and collaborating across departments and with contractors. EVR offers plenty of opportunities to grow and learn. The supportive culture, great people, and strong work-life balance make it a great place to build a career. One of my proudest accomplishments has been transitioning from a water-focused role into my current position. Most of my background was in water quality and fisheries, so moving into soil and waste was a significant change. I love living in the Elk Valley. The recreational opportunities are incredible, and the sense of community is strong. It’s not uncommon to run into colleagues in town, which really strengthens workplace relationships. Outside of work, you’ll find me outdoors snowboarding in winter, and fishing, biking, or camping in summer. I’m also a musician who plays locally and tours throughout the Kootenays and Alberta. The Elk Valley music scene is amazing, with so many talented people and a vibrant community of music lovers. My advice for new team members? Don’t be afraid to speak up and ask questions. There’s endless opportunity and plenty of people willing to help. Ben - Coordinator, Environment Find meaningful work & opportunities at jobs.evr.com
I am an HR Co-op Student at Greenhills Operations, supporting all aspects of HR including exit interviews, investigations, discipline management, training coordination, referrals, and engagement events. What I enjoy most is the variety. From leading projects to supporting HR processes, I’ve grown into responsibilities I never imagined at this stage of my career. My proudest moment has been stepping into challenges that felt bigger than me and realizing I could rise to them. That shift from “Can I do this?” to “Yes, I can, and I did,” has been the most empowering part of my journey here. Even as a student, I feel trusted to handle meaningful work that develops my skills. The culture is supportive, safety-driven, and focused on growth. Elkford is like living in nature’s backyard, surrounded by mountains, wildlife, and trails. I love the peacefulness here, and also the sense of adventure. My advice? Be open to learning and never hesitate to ask questions. People here are approachable and willing to share if you show curiosity and initiative. I’m proud to work at EVR because I feel part of something bigger, supporting an industry that powers communities while also growing as a professional. What makes the experience truly meaningful are the people, who remind me every day that kindness exists. I am a Haul Truck Operator at Line Creek Operations and have recently been filling in as a Haul Truck Trainer for my crew. I’ve enjoyed helping new drivers learn the site, operate safely and efficiently, and settle into the team. It’s been rewarding to support others and see them succeed. Coming from a nursing background, I’m proud to have transitioned into mining and found something I’m good at. I’ve really enjoyed being part of something big. I moved to the Elk Valley in 2012 and have built a life here. My family has a guide outfitting territory in the area, and I’ve loved spending time outdoors, hunting, hiking, skiing, biking, and lake days with my dog. EVR feels like a local company, even with the scale of operations. I have family and friends who also live and work here, and it’s meaningful to be part of something that impacts so many in the valley. My advice? Ask lots of questions, give it time, and focus on being a safe and efficient operator. - Emily, Haul Truck Operator, Line Creek Operations Join EVR and be part of something bigger. I’m proud of my role as a Heavy Duty Mechanic and backup supervisor at EVR. It’s a great feeling to know I’m making a real impact on the equipment that keeps everything running. The variety of work keeps me engaged – no two days are ever the same. One day I’m working on haul trucks and excavators, the next it’s shovels and drills. The dynamic nature of the job can be challenging, but it’s always interesting and there’s always something to learn. The camaraderie among the team is key—we’re always bouncing ideas off each other and working together to solve problems safely. Living in Elkford is great, especially for outdoor enthusiasts like me. I spend a lot of my free time hiking with my girlfriend and our dog, fishing, and working on old cars, including my 1967 Camaro and a 1957 T-Bird that my grandpa purchased in 1961. It’s been out of commission since 1984, but this summer I’m bringing it back to life. I’ve always enjoyed fixing things, whether it’s for work or just for the satisfaction of it. EVR is a great place to work. If you’re a tradesperson considering joining EVR, my advice is: take pride in your work, own your job, and do your best. You’ll have the opportunity to grow and take on a variety of challenging tasks. James - Heavy Duty Mechanic, Running Repair, Mine Maintenance Explore our job opportunities, today. Visit jobs.evr.com
"I’ve been with EVR for a year, focused on water management, air quality, and regulatory compliance. Soon, I’ll be moving to the proposed Cougar Phase 8 & 9 Mine Project – an exciting next step for Greenhills Operations. At EVR, it’s the people who make the difference. My colleagues are welcoming, supportive, fun, and professional. EVR also stands out for linking operational goals with environmental and social responsibilities—from water stewardship and biodiversity to Indigenous engagement and long-term land use. That big-picture mindset is something I deeply respect. Outside of work, I spend time with my wife Dorcas and our three children. We love cooking, exploring the region, and I’m also working on a side project: a guidebook for African immigrants new to the Elk Valley. Living in Elkford has been transformative for my family. The scenery, trails, and wildlife are incredible—but just as meaningful is the strong sense of community. As newcomers, we’ve felt truly welcomed, whether through local schools, events, or the friendly faces we meet on those special days when the beloved coffee truck sets up outside Kootenay Market. In Nigeria, we often say: "Naija No Dey Carry Last,” which means bring your best to the table, always! - Sam, Environmental Performance Lead, Greenhills Operations Explore career opportunities with EVR at jobs.evr.com
