R.E. Warner & Associates was honored to be on-site for the groundbreaking of Pacific Steel Group’s new Mojave Micro Mill in Kern County, California. Designed to be a zero process carbon emissions rebar mill, this transformative project is the first steel mill to be built in the state in over 50 years and is set to establish new industry standards for emissions reduction. By using hybrid mill technology and a renewable energy portfolio in a unique Micro Mill configuration, the steel produced at this facility is expected to be 85% to 90% cleaner than any rebar produced anywhere else in the world. Once complete, the Mojave Micro Mill will fully integrate PSG’s reinforcing steel manufacturing operations. At full capacity, it will recycle nearly half a million tons of locally sourced steel scrap into upwards of 450,000 tons of high-quality, seismic-grade rebar, pre-assembled rebar cages, and post-tension cables. The project will also make a sizable economic impact in the region – with a total investment exceeding $600 million, the mill will create more than 400 permanent jobs.
