Robin AI has hired a new CTO, Tramale Turner, based in New York City. Turner is a former head of engineering at Stripe, who also held senior roles at Nintendo and Volkswagen.
Even in a fast-paced startup, it’s worth taking the time to make the right hire — and keeping the right team. During the pandemic, my co-founder and I were advised to lay off our entire team: We refused, and instead our team weathered the storm together, building towards today's 160-strong team across Britain, the U.S., and Asia. Talent should be the top priority for every founder. It’s incredibly difficult to grow your business quickly unless you surround yourself with exceptional people. As a founder, you’ll always see your business as under-resourced, yet hiring the right person with the right experience can be 100 times more impactful than simply filling the role with the right skills. For example, in complex markets like the legal industry, where we operate, hiring based on skillset alone isn’t enough to gain traction in these industries. Instead, we actively look for people who have spent time on the ground and, ideally, who have navigated similar growth journeys before. We give every candidate a technical assessment that simulates the work they would do if they joined the company. These assessments are based on actual work we’ve had to do recently, giving us a clear sense of what good or bad looks like. It’s a process for avoiding candidates who have spent their careers accruing shiny logos on their CVs without necessarily advancing their skills or learning from their experience. Robin AI Reports is a revolutionary new product line launched in June 2024 to help businesses close deals faster by radically disrupting the pace of due diligence and negotiations. Reports automates a key piece of due diligence and negotiations — it can generate reports on contracts in minutes, which solves an expensive pain point for legal teams by dramatically cutting the time and cost of manual work in due diligence around M&A, IPOs, and other asset management including real estate and debt financing. A free version of Robin AI Reports is available as part of the company’s commitment to democratizing access to legal services. This product shift, and the availability of a free version, renders optional the multi-million prices large law firms charge to manage complex deals. Firms now have alternatives to that expensive billable hours system. Reports also equips C-Suite executives and board members with the information required to get alignment on key issues, removing blockers and delays from deals.
