We're proud to share that six Sheppard Pratt nurses have been recognized as "Top Nurses" in the psychiatric category. Congratulations to all who were honored; especially our incredible nursing teams, whose expertise and compassion make a difference every day.
For the 12th consecutive year, Sheppard Pratt presented the Michael Edelstein, MD, Physician Humanitarian Award to a physician who exemplifies compassionate, high-quality care. This year, we are proud to recognize Laszlo Trazkovich, MD, associate medical director at the Westminster, MD Outpatient Mental Health Center (OMHC). A member of the Sheppard Pratt community for over 25 years, he is known for his clinical expertise and deep compassion. Colleagues describe him as a dedicated and trusted presence who consistently goes above and beyond for his patients. Congratulations, Dr. Trazkovich!

Sheppard Pratt has recognized its top educators for the last five years through this honor sponsored by the family of Dr. Penelope “Penny” Cordish, a former Sheppard Pratt board member and retired educator. The award celebrates Sheppard Pratt teachers who, like Dr. Cordish, exemplify quality, caring, teamwork, integrity, and leadership. Recipients are nominated by their colleagues or by a Sheppard Pratt School family. Special education teacher, Danielle Ford, received recognition for her caring, collaborative nature as well as her innovation and leadership both inside and outside of the classroom. Nominators commented on her outstanding communication, compassion, and commitment to her students' growth. She was praised for keeping families informed and engaged, creating hands-on learning experiences that build real-world skills for her students and fostering a respectful, inclusive classroom environment.
Sheppard Pratt employees participated in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Out of the Darkness Walk in Columbia, MD to raise awareness and support for suicide prevention. Our participation reflects Sheppard Pratt's ongoing commitment to suicide prevention and to supporting organizations that share our mission and values. We were proud to collaborate with the National Association of Health Services Executives at an information table during the event and to celebrate our walking team, the "Orchard Apples", who joined the walk to make a difference in our community.

We’re thrilled to announce two new ways we're recognizing the extraordinary care our nurses and mental health workers give every day. The DAISY Award is an international award program developed by a patient’s family to honor the care and compassion their loved one received during their hospitalization. It was the first program of its kind to give patients, families, and co-workers a way to express their gratitude to nurses for providing compassionate care to patients and their families. More than 220,000 nurses in all 50 U.S. states and 40 countries have been honored with a DAISY Award. Mental health workers at Sheppard Pratt hospitals are eligible for the BEE Award. BEE stands for “Beyond Exceptional Every Day”. This is a complementary award started by hospitals who wanted to develop a standardized award program in conjunction with the DAISY Award to honor the crucial role other caregivers play in a patient’s experience.
Our most recent Nurse Residency Program (NRP) cohort celebrated their successful completion with a special graduation ceremony at our Towson Hospital campus earlier this month. Sheppard Pratt's NRP is designed to support new nurses as they transition into clinical practice. In partnership with the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™, we provide valuable resources to help nurses build confidence and enhance their competencies during their first 12 months of employment. As part of the program, participants attend monthly meetings and complete an evidence-based project within their first year of employment. Upon graduation, they seamlessly transition from nurse residents to staff nurses. Many alumni go on to take active roles within the organization - serving on committees, mentoring nurse externs, and contributing to the education and growth of future nurses at Sheppard Pratt.
Sheppard Pratt believes in the power of partnership. By working together with community groups across Maryland, Sheppard Pratt and its partners can broadcast the benefits of mental healthcare in ways neither could accomplish alone. One collaboration that perfectly demonstrates the positive impact of partnership in Sheppard Pratt's collaboration with the Baltimore Ravens. "Because the Ravens are deeply rooted in the community that we care about, there's a natural alignment there," said Dr. Harsh K. Trivedi, MD, MBA, president and chief executive officer. "We know that mental health impacts everyone, regardless of race, age, gender, or income. When you go to a Ravens game, you see every section of the community there cheering them on and being part of the flock. When we talk about moving mental health into the mainstream, that's what 'mainstream' looks like."
