Stowe Family Law are now a member of LawWorks, a charity which works to connect volunteer lawyers with people who need, but are unable to afford legal advice. With more than 200 family lawyers spread across England and Wales, Stowe is ideally placed to support the work that LawWorks does. Many of our lawyers already do a huge amount in their local legal communities, including student mentoring, volunteering at law clinics, and more. At Stowe, everyone has access to a volunteering day each year to support a charity of their choice, in a way that they choose. However, our collaboration with LawWorks is the start of a more co-ordinated approach towards our pro-bono offering and other charitable efforts. Stowe Giving Back, our charitable and community group, are committed to increasing what we do as a firm both at local and national level, supporting causes that are important to our colleagues. We are really proud to become members of LawWorks. It is impossible to work in family law and not be aware of the huge inequality that exists in terms of access to legal advice and we hope our membership and support will help their continued work to redress that. Earlier this year, our Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging working group discussed, amongst other topics, a desire for us to look at ways we can be more inclusive for anyone at Stowe or anyone who may want to join us who lives with a disability. We are pleased to share that as of May 2024, Stowe is signed up as a Disability Confident Committed employer. Disability Confident is a UK government initiative that encourages employers to think differently about disability and take action to improve their recruitment, retention, and development of disabled people. By becoming a Disability Confident Committed employer, we share our dedication to a series of actions and activities that enable more disabled people to access and thrive in the workplace. This includes: - Reviewing our recruitment processes - Anticipating and supporting any reasonable adjustments - Supporting existing colleagues who acquire a disability or long-term health condition You can learn more about our next steps and safe working assessment by clicking the photo, which will take you to our full post.
