The opportunity
We would like to appoint a School Business Officer and Clerk to Governors for our small, rural, successful school, starting September 2026. South Darley CE Primary is a warm and welcoming village school in the Derbyshire Dales near Matlock — around 55 children in three classes, with wonderfully supportive parents, staff and governors and a close-knit, caring family feel. Because we are such a small school, you would play a key part in school life, and your work would help ensure our continued success and good reputation. Rated Good by Ofsted, with the vision “Living as Children of Light.”
About the role
For administrative reasons the post is made up of two parts — School Business Officer (the main role) and Clerk to Governors (a smaller part) — but we very much see it as one combined role. You would be responsible for the administrative running of the school and a friendly face parents can approach at the start and end of each day, working in close partnership with the Headteacher.
Hours, pay and holidays
The School Business Officer role is 30 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm, during term time. You would also clerk around 12 governor meetings a year — held in term time, in the early evening and finishing by 7.30pm — together with the preparation around them.
This is a term-time post (40 weeks a year, which includes one week you can take flexibly during the school holidays). Importantly, your paid holiday entitlement is already included in the salary, and your pay is spread evenly across the year — you receive the same amount in 12 equal monthly instalments, including during the school holidays.
