Weir Marine Engineering currently has a challenging opportunity for a Database Application Developer. This permanent position is based at the Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE) in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Since 1953, Weir has operated and managed the Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE), a Department of National Defence (DND) facility located in LaSalle with operations in Halifax, Lévis, Victoria and Ottawa/Gatineau. Over 460 personnel are currently employed by Weir at NETE, supporting the Royal Canadian Navy and DND with test and evaluation services in a wide variety of technical areas.

Design and develop custom software applications and database solutions;
Create Web clients for remote (server based) data access;
Develop solutions for future projects, directly interfacing with customer;
Develop elegant and efficient front-end user interfaces;
Support, upgrade and maintain several current active projects;
Write technical reports and documents; and

Must-haves:
Ability to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance, which requires Canadian citizenship and continuous residence in Canada for at least the past 10 years.
Bachelor in Computer Science or equivalent experience;
5+ years of experience in programming and database development;
Computer Skills: Visual Basic, Visual Basic .NET, Visual Studio, ASP.NET and AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML), MS SQL Server, MS Access, VBA coding and strong knowledge of SQL, and Oracle database, Adobe Flash, BOBJ and Dreamweaver (definite asset);
Team player, proactive and responsive who strive to satisfy the client;
Strong technical and analytical skills and ability to work without supervision;
Resourceful, imaginative and creative individual;
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
Time management and multitasking abilities; and
Proficiency in writing technical reports and documents in English.
