The “A” Operator is accountable for the safe operation, monitoring and recording of plant functions throughout the facility. The "A" operator is directly responsible for overall plant operations. He/She takes action to ensure the safe, economical, compliant and reliable operation of the equipment. This position is the senior employee at the site during nonbusiness hours (nights, weekends, holidays, etc.) and makes appropriate decisions for the care, custody and control of the asset during these times. This includes operating and maintaining the facility based on good judgment and operational data.
Major accountabilities specific to this position:
· Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. Efficiently operate and maintain the facility with minimal guidance or assistance based upon operation data. Be proficient in utilizing the site data historian, PI Process Book, to assist in plant system troubleshooting and plant performance data gathering.
· Proficient at operating the plant via the distributed control system (DCS)
· Communicate plant issues and keep the O&M Manager fully informed of unusual conditions, damaged equipment and current job processes as it relates to the operation. Proficiently utilize the site computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to communicate and document plant issues and/or unusual conditions.
· Responsible for effectively and accurately completing and documenting all required safety and health permitting, including Work Authorization, Lock Out/Tag Out, Hot Work and Confined Space Entry. Understands and complies with facility safety programs.
· Provide input to the O&M Manager’s plans and directions and ensure on-going appropriate relationships with other positions.
· Assigns tasks to the B Operator Technician as needed to accomplish desired results.
· Provides higher level technical expertise; conducts Job Safety Analysis, assists colleagues to resolve problems; monitors tasks; coaches and provides feedback of task performance.
· Complies and adheres to all environmental permits, all regulatory (NERC) procedures, and operating procedures
· Work shift hours, overtime, irregular hours, and provide vacation coverage as needed to support reliable operation of the facility. From time to time the working hours will be determined on short notice based on plant requirements.
· Identify and resolve CEMS problems. Assist in the calibrations and gas bottle change out.
· Performs capital project and/or major program responsibilities assigned by Plant Management
· Performs general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the appearance of the facility. Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of the plant and control room, or other duties as assigned.
· Assist in Essential Care and Condition Monitoring of plant equipment such as greasing, lubricating, vibration checking etc. Assist in repairing plant equipment and plant instrumentation.
· Demonstrate a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented, easy to do business with manner of working.
· Is the senior employee at the site during non-business hours (nights, weekends, holiday, etc.) and makes appropriate decisions for the care, custody and control of the asset during these times.
· Assists and participates in performance reviews, recruiting and discipline of “B” Operators.
· Provides detailed status of plant conditions and directives to other employees at all times including shift turnover.
· Effectively exercise three-way communication and give directives internally and to external entities (regulatory, transmission Owner/operator, ISO-NE, emergency responders, Marketing Group). Follow directives from internal and external entities to the extent it is prudent to do so. Accurately maintains log books.
· Prepare operating forecasts and production reports, and communicates information to distribution lists. Clearly communicates to marketing group on an as needed basis as operating and market conditions change. Participates in daily marketing calls.
· Complete operator training and assist in the training of new operators, as required.
Physical Requirements
· Working on feet for 12-hour periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing
· Capability to lift 50 pounds
· Heavy Cleanup of an industrial site utilizing shovels and brooms
· Protective Equipment must be worn in performance of some duties like hard hats, safety glasses, air masks (respirator), ear protection, chemical suits, hot work gloves, high voltage protective equipment.
· Work from height with fall protection
· Entering Confined Spaces
Education/Experience Required
Skills, Capabilities and Experience:
· Associated Degree from two year college or technical school
· 5-10 years related experience/training in power plant operations.
· State of Maine issued Stationary Steam Engineer Boiler Operation License preferred
· Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical knowledge
· Maintain First Aid & CPR Certifications
· Must be proficient in Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
· Proficient in computer technology and use of various computer-based tools (Word, Excel, PI, etc.), time keeping, computer-based training and others as needs and technology changes over time.
· Strong electrical and microprocessor-based control background
· Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, electric one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P & IDs
· Demonstrated leadership capabilities, knowledge of project management and maintenance planning software (Maximo) will also be considered strong assets.
· You possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, strong computer skills, and a demonstrated commitment to personal development.
· You are a self-starter with excellent organizational and analytical skills who is able to function effectively in a team environment.
· A valid Driver’s License is required.
· Maintain Forklift Operator Certification
