ARCH Venture Partners wants to catch companies on the upward curve of their development. The firm invests in startup and seed-stage companies, particularly those concentrating on information technology, life sciences, and physical sciences. The company also specializes in the commercialization of technologies originating from academic and research institutions. ARCH launched its first fund in 1989 and now manages seven funds totaling some $1.5 billion. It has invested in more than 130 companies since its founding. Portfolio holdings include AmberWave Systems, Impinj, Nanosys, Surface Logix, and Xtera Communications.
