There's an old ad that says no wine will be sold before its time. So where does wine spend all that time? The good stuff likely cools its heels inside an oak barrel made by Tonnellerie Demptos SA. Founded in France by the Demptos family in 1825, today the company has operations in France, Spain, Hungary, South Africa, and the US where it offers French, American, and Hungarian oak products. The Demptos cooperage offers a variety of barrels, but specializes in 225 liter sizes. Oak barrels are often "toasted" or slightly burnt by fire to better lend their flavor to wine as it ages. In addition to its new barrels, the company can also help customers find used wine barrels.
