Like The Lorax, Document Capture Technologies speaks for the trees. The company makes digital scanners used to upload paper documents into electronic data. Its line of USB-powered portable image scanners, sold under the TravelScan and DocketPORT brand names, are used in bank note and check verification devices, ID card and passport scanners, barcode scanners, and business card readers. A handful of customers, including Brother Industries, NCR, and Newell Rubbermaid account for more than half of sales. Subsidiary Syscan, Inc. develops contact image sensor (CIS) modules used in fax machines and scanners. Investor Richard Dietl owns more than 35% of the company; Hong Kong-based Syscan Imaging Ltd. holds around 15%.
