Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill operates a chain of about 120 franchised quick-service restaurants that specializes in jerk chicken dishes and Jamaican-style patties (pocket pastries filled with spiced chicken or beef). The eateries also serve such bakery items as pastries, cake, and sugar buns. Most Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery outlets are found in and around the New York City area; the chain has additional locations in Florida, New Jersey, and half a dozen other states in along the Eastern seaboard. In addition to the restaurants, the company sells its frozen Jamaican pastries at retail food stores throughout the US. CEO Lowell Hawthorne and his family started the business in 1989.
