The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) keeps an eye on the banker, the insurance carrier, and the real estate agent, to ensure they're not knaves all three. The department is comprised of four divisions: Banks and Real Estate, Financial Institutions, Insurance, and Professional Regulation. It regulates and licenses banks and financial institutions, real estate businesses and professionals, insurance companies, and various other licensed professions. It enforces professional practice standards and protects the rights of Illinois residents in their dealings with these industries. The department has an annual budget of almost $100 million.
