Wholesale groceries are only part of the story for Alex Lee. The company is a leading distributor of food and other products to retailers and foodservice operators. Its Merchants Distributors, Inc. (MDI) subsidiary supplies food and general merchandise to more than 850 retailers in 12 mostly southeastern states, and MDI's own Consolidation Services business provides warehousing and logistics services. Alex and Lee George started the company in 1931. The George family continues to control Alex Lee.
