You may think that Mother Nature engineers wood, but Pfleiderer begs to differ. The German firm makes engineered wood products including particle board, medium- and high-density fiberboard, wood panels, and laminate flooring. Pfleiderer sells its products to furniture makers and building supply stores in 80 countries. Germany accounts for about a third of sales. The company makes its wood products at more than 20 plants in North America and Europe. Among its subsidiaries are Swedish laminate flooring maker Pergo and Canada's Uniboard.. JPMorgan Chase affiliate One Equity Partners owns nearly 30% of Pfleiderer. The Pfleiderer family owns about 10%.
