PolyMedica provides health care products and services to patients suffering from diabetes. Through its Liberty Healthcare division, the company distributes blood glucose test kits, insulin, syringes, and other supplies directly to the homes of nearly 1 million diabetes patients. (It sells its own private-label glucose monitor through a deal with Abbott Diabetes Care.) Additionally, PolyMedica's mail order pharmacy division provides its diabetes customers with prescription medications. Pharmacy benefits management firm Medco, which had partnered with PolyMedica to distribute prescriptions, acquired the firm for about $1.5 billion in 2007.
