SYSTRAN wants to help customers transcend the language barrier. It provides software used for translating documents and other content from one language to another. The software, available on various computer types, mobile devices, and on the Web, can handle more than 50 languages spoken around the world. Corporate customers include Cisco Systems, Daimler, Dow Corning, Ford Motor, NCR, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. SYSTRAN has offices in France and the US. The company's origins are in a translation program developed in 1968 by an American professor; the original program, called SYSTRAN for SYStem TRANslation, translated Russian to English. The rights to the program were acquired in 1986 by the Gachot family.
