A strong presence among privately owned energy companies, Samson Investment is an independent oil and gas entity with exploration, development, and production activities in a number of producing areas in the US. Key regions include East Texas, Texas Gulf Coast, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Anadarko, Permian, San Juan, Green River, and Williston basins. Samson Investment operates more than 4,000 wells and has stakes in more than 11,000 wells. The company's strategy is to make acquisitions that complement its existing areas of operations and establish its presence in new core regions. In 2011 the company agreed to be acquired by a consortium including KKR and ITOCHU for $7.2 billion.
