Candidatei-me por indicação de um funcionário. O processo levou 1 semana. Fui entrevistado pela Booking.com em dez. de 2014
Entrevista
I applied through an acquaintance that introduced me & submitted my resume to their recruiter. I visited their office and got to know a lot about the company from the acquaintance before any interviews. I was also interviewed for another position which I was declined of.
I skipped the first round which was phone interview with recruiter because I've already done it with the other position.
Second round: phone interview with 2 designers. After the first round I was instructed to come up 2 actionable ideas to improve their mobile apps. We went over those ideas and why I'd change them. They also asked me about my project experience.
Third round: in-person interview with Booking.com designers and the recruiter. If you're outside of Amsterdam, they would provide you the plane ticket and hotel. I was already in Amsterdam so I missed out on the benefit.
The first round of in-person interview was meeting the recruiter who explained the relocation package to Amsterdam, benefits, holidays etc. It was not really an interview but I was given time to ask more questions and gave my salary expectations. Lasted about 30 minutes.
The second round of in-person interview was with two designers to understand how you design and your past mobile app designs, and my suggestions for the mobile apps.
Questions they asked: What if someone says we should redesign our Android app to adapt Google Material Design? How would you design this iOS app (one of my past projects) so it looks more native? How would you redesign the room selection page on mobile for this particular hotel which has the most room options on Booking?
The third round of in-person interview was with two designers who gave me a design challenge. Pretended that they were a multinational restaurant chain who wanted to spice up their business with technology, due to the complaints from customers about the waiting time.
They asked about the screen flows on my design. If I was the CEO what would I do to generate more revenue, what things would I measure and why. How would I roll out the changes.
I was told that they would play the owners of the restaurants and I could ask them questions. But during the design exercise I felt that the interviewers had a solution in mind and they wanted me to give them that solution rather than collaborate (with the owners) to reach the end-goal.
The whole in-person interview lasted 4 hours. They provide the pens and paper for me to draw (and I was encouraged to). Between the in-person interviews they asked if I wanted any coffee, fruits or energy bars, which was a nice gesture.
Their feedback was that they were impressed with my visual design skills and I was prepared for the interview, but they are looking for someone with stronger knowledge in iOS (I was more experienced in Android). They also felt I needed guidance in the design challenge.
Overall it was a good interview experience. They were flexible in scheduling the in-person interview right away as I already had a flight out of Amsterdam before they contacted me.

Entrevista
it was a 3 round interview process
1. HR phone interview with recruiter
- He was really friendly and asked me general questions about my experience
- asked me general questions about booking.com's business and a/b testing
- asked me a bit about my experience
2. technical phone interview
- gave me a design challenge related to improving the mobile app, which I then presented over the phone and discussed
- the interviewers asked me about how I would test these designs and they had me explain my decisions and why they would be impactful
3. in person interview
- this lasted about 5-6 hours and i had 2 technical interviews, one centering around my experience and one that was a role play/technical interview. In the role play, i interacted with 2 clients who wanted to improve their business through technology. I had to figure out what their pain points were and come up with tech solutions to solve their problems, and consequently that led me designing an app for them.
- be prepared to fully defend your design decisions, ask questions, and really understand why you make the decisions you make (both in the role play and in regards to your portfolio work)

Of the improvements to the mobile app you made, which one has the highest priority and why? How would you test its effectiveness?

Entrevista
The interview process has been one of the most streamlined I have seen in the industry. They know the kind of people that they are looking that will fit their culture and work and select accordingly.
I had been trying for Booking.com since a long time because of their almost obsessive focus on data-backed design (not data driven - there is a difference). I got a call from one of their recruiters after having applied on the company website. The interview was a 3 step process for me.
Step 1 - Introductory call
One of their technical recruiters gave me a call informing that I had been shortlisted for the first round. He understood about my background, asked me a few questions about my own aspirations as a mobile app designers, asked about my biases about iOS vs Android vs Web. All of this was just to understand me as a person. He then gave a brief preview about design at Booking.com and then discussed the next steps in the process.
Step 2 - Online task
Even if I was applying as a Mobile App Designer, I was asked to complete a HTML and CSS task which seemed a bit weird. But if you have the basic concepts of CSS box models clear, its not that difficult a task. However, doing all of that in 30 mins means you need to have the syntax on your fingertips. So best advised to go through some CSS documentation. After having completed it, I waited.
I was then sent a mail saying that I had qualified. I was then given a brief about the next round - to analyze the Booking.com app and come up with three suggestions for improvement and how I could measure if they worked or not.
Step 3 - Phone interview
I was interviewed by two mobile app designers with this task. First it was a generic discussion about the two mobile platforms - disadvantages and advantages of each, and the kind of user aspirations attached to each. This is where your past experience of work on either of the two platforms can come handy.
Then I was asked to elaborate on the ideas I had, the problem I was trying to solve with those ideas and how I planned to measure them. They were really focussed on the measurement part, throwing multiple scenarios of the problem at me. I would advise to first listen to them, think and then respond. Some question were definitely grilling but they gave ample time to think about the possible answers. The only right answers are the solutions that can be measured and decided upon.
I was then given a call saying that I had qualified and that they would like to fly me down to Amsterdam for the rest of the interview. They helped me get my Schengen visa sorted and I was in Amsterdam in a month.
Step 4 - The interview
The interview comprised of 3 rounds with multiple designers. All the interviews were completed in the same day.
After the fourth interview, I was told by the recruiter that I had been selected for the role and they wanted to make an offer. After having gone through the multiple aspects of the offer, I accepted it. In two months, I moved to Amsterdam.
