Got contacted by the recruiter via Naukri but it was a weird call.
We exchanged basic details about salary, location, type of work, etc.
Then she mentioned that it's an urgent requirement, so they will have only a 30-minute interview. If that is cleared, we'll move straight to an offer. That itself was a red flag for me. No good company will make decisions about hiring after such a short interview.
She also pushed to keep the interview the very next day and I accommodated the request since I am actively looking for a new job.
The interviewer seemed a little distant and dismissive to me. He asked me to give a brief introduction which I did.
He then asked a question about finding the first non-repeating character from a string. I answered the best way possible but then he was like you really think someone will approve your PR if you submit this? What is this if else that you are putting it seems.
In my mind, I'm like huh? Do you expect the most optimal solution in the first go without access to any reference materials? I obviously didn't say this.
He then gave me a string having a date in a certain format and then asked me how to convert it into a certain other format. I told something off the top of my head which wasn't correct but again, without any reference, that's what you'll get from anyone.
It felt more like he expected syntax and classes to be byhearted and printed on screen rather than actually evaluating my conceptual knowledge and my design skills.
I could hear a lot of noise as well from his end, he was speaking to some family member or something in the middle of the interview. That isn't just distracting but also unprofessional. If I'm expected to be professional as a candidate, I expect the same from the person who is interviewing me too.
Overall the whole experience was a bit weird and disappointing as well as rushed.
