I was contacted by two internal recruiters through E&Y when they found my profile through linkedin. A follow up call from another recruiter lasted about an hour where I was able to go into detail regarding my career and specifics of what type of .Net and other IT work I had done. That conversation went very well or so I thought. The next step was to be a more technical phone screen that could lead to a final face to face interview. I told the interviewer that I had something imminent and he mentioned that he would try to get the next step done as soon as possible. While waiting for E&Y, I had another company offer me a position. I told the recruiter I was working with that I would take the job but that I wanted to fully explore a potential opportunity with E&Y. In today's world, companies don't give you time to have mull over an offer for a few days. The trend now is that you are pre accepting the position, salary and benefits before the company officially gives you an offer when going through a head hunter. So, I was made an offer by another company. But, I had to accept on the spot and made a tough decision to decline based on how well things were going with the E&Y and phone conversation I had. I knew the risks that I may never get eventually hired. But, I'm thinking this could be my dream job...go for my dream. Well, I get an email back three days later from E&Y saying that the feedback from my resume was not positive without any explanation as to why it wasn't positive. What are the reasons? I'm genuinely confused at this point. Why was I even contacted to begin with when you had both my linked in profile which is essentially the same as my resume I gave you? Would that not be a first step for the E&Y candidate evaluation process? So, yea, I declined an offer with another company and never made it to a technical phone screen that was supposed to be the next step. Look, I know E&Y is a great company but your hiring process doesn't seem very logical and is borderline cruel.
