A week after online application I was invited to a telephone interview. Standard questions that you can easily prep for after a little bit of research: what does GLG do? with which industries do we work? why clients choose us? why experts choose us? which skills can you contribute to the role? what would be you daily activities as a Research Associate? 10 days after that I was invited to the in-person interview with three different Research Managers. What I really didn't like is that the interviewers haven't coordinated the questions and each asked the same thing as an intro: how did you hear about GLG? why GLG? what is our business model? what other jobs are you applying for? First interview gave me a situation question: what if you have three different tasks with similar urgencies: database task, client who has been waiting for 10 days, and client who just called. How would you prioritise? They want to hear your discussion, how would you approach a situation: I said that I would first try to reach an expert who is more important for GLG - depending on how long he was a member, his seniority, etc. The second interview was a role-play: pretend you are trying to recruit a particular expert to answer client's questions on the industry. First you introduce GLG, explain their business models and the benefits of working with GLG. The key here is to know about GLG's compliance policies, how you can't disclose insider information and the name of the client is revealed only afterwards and really common sense stuff. The third interview is a case study, but is also similar to a role-play, but now you are talking to the client who wants to know about a value chain of specific product and you need to figure out which experts to recruit. You basically have to ask how many experts the client thinks he/she wants to approach? what kind of expert: academia or industry professional? Does a client have a specific company in mind? by what time GLG needs to find the expert? what kind of event the client is looking for (phone call, roundtable, etc). Also instead of asking, you can propose your own ideas. Everyone was nice and friendly, and I had a good feeling about the interview, so not sure why I got rejected. They send a generic email with no real feedback - we believe you are not the best fit. Maybe cause I am not really a sales type of person, and the job would require you to cold call a lot.
