Interviewed for the Manager, Finance & Operations position and came away disappointed with the overall process. The experience felt very one-sided and heavily focused on extracting detailed operational and strategic recommendations rather than assessing qualifications, experience, and fit for the role.
Several questions required extensive thought and consulting-level input around process improvements and organizational challenges, which made the interview feel more like unpaid advisory work than a collaborative hiring discussion. In addition, the overall tone of the interaction felt somewhat cold and disengaged, which made it difficult to feel enthusiastic about the opportunity.
While the organization’s mission is meaningful, I would have appreciated a more structured and welcoming interview experience that balanced technical evaluation with genuine candidate engagement. Overall, the process left me feeling that a significant amount of preparation and insight was expected without much indication of reciprocal interest in the candidate.

The interview process included a detailed assessment prior to a formal interview, where I was asked to walk through solutions to several of the organization’s current challenges. While assessments are common, the depth and specificity of what was requested felt more aligned with providing consulting-level recommendations rather than evaluating general qualifications. It gave the impression that candidates were being asked to contribute actionable ideas upfront without clear context on how those insights would be used in the hiring process. Candidates should be aware that the process may require a significant time investment and sharing of detailed recommendations. Communication was professional, but I would have preferred a more structured evaluation focused on experience and overall approach.
