I was contacted by a third-party recruiter and given a basic phone screen asking about my experience and skills. The very next day I was put on a conference call with the two other members of the development team (UX Developer and ASP.Net Developer) and the project manager. They asked the usual questions one expects from an interview for a Web Developer position, took a brief look at my work samples, and after some friendly discussion about the state of web technology, the call was ended. Later that day I negotiated my pay (it was easy) and got the job offer. It was an overall positive experience, and moved much more quickly than I am accustomed to.
This is probably an atypical experience, as Perkins+Will is an architecture firm and they tend to hire designers and architects more than any other position. furthermore, they usually recruit directly for those positions.
