      Candidatura

Candidatei-me por meio de recrutador(a). Fui entrevistado pela Remitly (Seattle, WA) em nov. de 2019

      Entrevista

I was reluctant to write this review but if I am able to help the next person experience better then I should. I got contact by a recruiter for the position and I went for it because I believe in their product and what they have created. 1. A phone call with a recruiter 2. An onsite coffee meeting with the hiring manager. It went over the scheduled time (1hr ½) 3. An onsite with 6 people including a lunch break which was not counted as an interview Each interview is an hour long. The interview consisted of behavior questions and ‘STAR method’. I met with the first person, and one of the things that throw me off at the beginning was when he compared my life experience to his mom. How it was similar and just based on that you probably can figure out the age different between him and myself. When I questioned him how the data is currently flowing from one system to another and if the main source break or the connection break what will happen? He drew a triangle diagram of 3 applications that they currently used and told me about the upstream of data and from that I could tell this is probably his first IT job. My second interview was not about technical which was great. It went really well. She was personable, and I got to understand more about the company's culture and their mission. I then had an hour lunch break and they provided lunch. My third interview was video conference and the STAR method questions began. He was a note-taker. A question asked and the moment you started speaking, he started typing. I always feel with video conference interview, you already distracted as it is but to talk to someone that just staring at the monitor typing away while you talk, it was too much. He was in the infrastructure team so I asked him few questions about how they are currently monitoring their systems and asked him about the flowing of data again and he completely gave me a different answer than the first one so I brought it up which probably confused him because he then wasn’t sure about it either and his affirmation was that he’s not on that team. I was looking forward to my fourth interview because I met him before but the moment he walked in, it was this negative energy and his face showed it all. He sat down and opened up his laptop, and dived right into it. "Tell me a time..." and in my head I'm thinking, if this is someone I have to work with day in and day out, and if he’s this moody, I don’t think I’m able to work with someone like that. So with that my answers became vague and short. When he left, I stood up and thanked him. He asked me who was next and I told him then he mentioned about time differences with the initial scheduled interviewer and the recruiter is working on replacing my next interviewer. Honestly, I should have left too but I stuck through the last interview. The last interview was another video conference. I don't know why it is called on-site interview when you have to do two video conferences for the interview. He mentioned how he didn't have any security work experiences when he started except a master in computer science. My answers were broad and scattered because I was already checked out. Personally, few questions using the STAR method is doable but when it was for the whole day of the interview, it was overkill. As a candidate, I want to make sure I’m a fit to the company’s culture but also able to express my ideas and collaborate with my peers too. It is a two ways and remember that you were once on the other side of the table as well or unless you know someone there and bypass the interview process but it doesn’t entitled you to belittle the candidate. I didn't need to take any notes but I remembered the conversation I had with each of them, their demeanor, what they have told me. I'm writing this review because I want the company to know and evaluate their current hiring process. They have a good product but they really should invest in educating their interviewers if they want to hire stellar candidates. Overall experience, a lot of "tell me a time..." questions, so be prepare to have a lot of detailed examples to show it. Maybe don't ask too much questions about their current setup.

I am very sorry you had such a negative experience. We aim for a great candidate experience with every interview and it is clear we missed the mark here. Thank you for sharing your feedback directly with our recruiters after the interview, and taking the time to write this review. I would appreciate the opportunity to chat further, to see if you have any other thoughts that could help us learn from this and improve. Please don’t hesitate to reach out! -Alex Maestretti, VP Information Technology / CISO
