I interviewed for another role at Amazon 3 years ago and got all the way beyond the last stage. This time, I flunked at the very first. The irony! Took about 9 days after applying to get to the 45' phone interview. Unbeknownst to me, this was with the hiring manager. On call, the lady said she would first explain the role to me, then ask me about myself, and then proceed to make some questions. Eventually she asked me 3 behavioral questions. Although I answered using the STAR method, on all 3 the add-on followup she asked was just "so what was the result of this?". Like, I just finished saying it! The 2nd and 3rd questions really hit me hard as I did not think they would get that complicated already at the first interview. Oh well. Felt the phone call was shaky by the end of it. Sure enough, a few hours later on the same day, I go check the Amazon Jobs portal and the status for my application had been changed from "Under Review" to "Not Selected". Won't even bother asking for an official rejection email from HR. The interviewer was quite robotic during the call and I could no feel no emotion or empathetic tone, felt like I wasn't talking to an human being. She also sounded like she was just reading from a script.
