Process was as follows:
- Applied online
- Amazon contacted me for an on-site exam
- After exam was given a take-home exercise
- After submitting exercise, contacted 1-2 weeks later for on-site interviews
- After on-site interviews, emailed about a background check
- Call the next day with a verbal offer
The on-site exam was difficult - questions on networking, databases, programming/scripting, linux, windows. The take-home exercise was fun, and required a lot of research and creative thinking about Amazon products. We had two days to complete the report (which had to be approx 2 - 3 pages in length). The on-site interviews were TOUGH, but everyone was so nice and I fell in love with the office and people just being there only a couple of hours.
Some examples of exam questions:
- Reverse DNS
- 3-way handshake
- What is NULL (SQL)
On-site details:
- 1 behavioral interview, 1 technical interview, 1 interview with both
- Behavioral: Tell us about yourself, tell us a time you went above and beyond for a customer, what is your biggest failure in life, tell us about a time you took a calculated risk
- Technical: They will only ask you strong points from your exam. For me that was databases, so writing queries, etc.
- I was also asked to explain my answer from the take-home exercise.
