      Entrevista para Growth Marketing Manager

      9 de mar. de 2016
      Candidato(a) sigiloso(a) à entrevista
      Los Angeles, CA
      Nenhuma oferta
      Experiência neutra
Entrevista com nível médio de dificuldade

      Candidatura

Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 5 semanas. Fui entrevistado pela Uber (Los Angeles, CA) em mar. de 2016

      Entrevista

Applied online, few weeks after the offer was on Linkedin. Got an email, two days later. Screen call was two days later and was quite easy. They do put salary limits on first interview which puts pressure on you as they are pretty low in salary(at least in this position) and apparently more stocks. You usually want the job, as Uber project is pretty amazing, so you say yes but you are quite surprised about the salary... Step 2 is the Marketing Test. A lot of people here talk about ideas being stolen but quite honestly, I think its fair game. Whatever, you want to get in, you must show why... Its a mix of online marketing, market research, marketing stunts and data analysis. Its not hard, it demands a bit of work but the data is basic data and so is the rest... Got the approval the next morning which was quite fast (did they read it all?). Step 3 is panel group, in my case, through video conference. They were two, it was supposed to last 30mn, it lasted 45. Basic review of your online marketing skills, background check, work ethic... Two days later, I got my confirmation for the last step, in house interview. Step 4&5&6: In house Interviews This is basically, your first experience with Uber environment, concretely... First step is an in house data exercise, that you'll defend in front of a group panel. The data was easy, findings were found with a simple pivot table... presentation was classic. Q&A on your backgrounds... Second step is another panel with a bit more senior managers, in my case operations and marketing. Questions on global online marketing industry, how I work, how do I work with senior managers, pressure... Q&A on background, pressure, market analysis... Third and final interview is with Hiring manager, in my case someone from another department then online marketing, which was weird as skills are not analyzed, basically only fit... This is where I personally missed a step. Questions were essentially on fit, culture and working under high pressure. Those questions were already asked in the previous round (a lot of questions come over and over and over and over) and my error was not to give the answers they wanted. Basically, make sure you to point out that you are tough, can push your ideas, make yourself a name in a place filled with ambitious people who want to get their priorities before yours. It seems idiotic but if you understand this, it will probably make it much easier for you. I don't believe that Uber works under more pressure than other projects or that they have more meritocracy over bureaucracy. They have 6K employees now so you can bet that some people want to maintain some sort of order... BUT they want can do people, who dont flinch if you get insulted (real question).. If ask your three skills: Be flexible, independent and hard working. I personally thought my resume was defending this aspect but not enough. Be relentless and show how you impacted your team. The process was filled with softballs so I thought I was doing well but the last step is very important, and in my case, the last process was much harder than the previous ones as they try to analyze how do you work in a high pressure environment (insults). This is subjective, so much harder than the skills interviews. Its also the last process of a 2h-2h30 process and multiple interviews, so you might feel a bit tired but be ready. Few days later, I got an answer from the recruiter saying that my leadership skills were not good enough and I didn't fit the culture of the office in comparison to the other finalist. Overall, the process is ok, not impossible and quite fair, just a bit bro-ey on the pressure / culture fit. Nothing that you dont know from Uber... Getting ready for the interview is easy, you have tons of content online to prepare yourself. Just leave some room for your own personal questions throughout the exchange.
